Come join the Hercules Community Gardening Program (HCGP) volunteer group that is working with the City of Hercules. The Community Garden Center is located in Ohlone Park, it includes plots that can be leased for growing organic vegetables or flowers, as well as school garden programs, senior gardens, native plant gardens, gardening education, and much more.
The Community Garden Center is managed by community gardeners and staffed by volunteers and interns. It serve as a resource center for a network of community garden projects throughout the city. Community gardens are wonderful places for neighbors to interact and share their appreciation for gardening, the environment and healthy living.
The garden program celebrates the multi-cultural and multi-generational diversity within our city. We invite senior citizens to share gardening secrets with young people, expert gardeners to educate novice gardeners, and specialist gardeners to introduce us to exciting new topics. We encourage heirloom and ethnic gardens that celebrate cultural history and cuisine to help maintain a connection to our heritage. We value native plant gardening that helps maintain our ecosystem and sustain the environment.
The Community Garden will have demonstration garden, fruit trees, work tables and a shade structure. Construction on the garden is already underway however a completion date for the garden has not yet been established, since the garden will be completed in phases.
