The Hercules Swim Center is a beautiful place that provides valuable resources to the community of Hercules, by providing a place for families, adults, teens and children to recreate! The Swim Center’s programs specialize in fostering human development, strengthening safety and security, promoting health and wellness, and providing recreational experiences.

Registration Tips:
We will be taking registration prior to the starting date of each class. Late registration will be accepted with a late fee of $10.00 applied on a space available basis or by special arrangements with the Recreation Program Supervisor. Dates are scheduled in advance, and participants who are interested in taking the course are encouraged to register early by calling over the phone, online, or coming into the community center during office hours.

Cancellation Policy:
Refunds and/or transfers will be granted on or before the first class meeting. No refunds or transfers will be granted after the first class meeting. There is a $10.00 service charge on all refunds/transfers initiated by the participant. If the course is canceled by the Hercules Parks & Recreation Department, the participant will have the option of transferring to another program, or will be granted a full refund.

Make-Up Classes:
The department does not makeup or refund for any missed classes, unless the participant has a Certified Doctor’s Excuse stating the reason the participant was unable to swim in the water for the period of time. In order to receive a refund for the length of time unattended, the Certified Doctor's Excuse must have the current date, time, and length of time that the participant is unable to attend the class. All refunds will be reviewed by the Recreation Program Supervisor and will be processed upon request.

Public Swim Capacity Policy:
On extremely hot days we anticipate reaching maximum capacity, at which time we will no longer admit additional participants.  Parties that are not registered with the Swim Center will not be allowed to admit guests once we have reached maximum capacity.  We will not allow patrons to re-enter the facility once they have left.

Weather Policy:
The Swim Center will be open rain or shine. If lightning, thunder, or heavy hail/rain occurs, the Swim Center will be closed immediately. The Swim Center may close at any time without notice due to program changes, weather conditions, or emergency situations.

Public Swim Attendance Policy:
The Hercules Swim Center shall remain open for public swim sessions for at least the first hour of operation. If at any time, the attendance has not reached 25 patrons, the public swim session will close. In addition, if at any time after the first hour of operation attendance drops below 25 patrons, the public swim session will also close. There will be no refunds for all closures due to lack of attendance.

Swim Diaper Policy:
Any child that is not completely potty trained must wear an approved swim diaper while swimming in our facility. To avoid pool closure and/or the cancellation of your swimming lesson/program, please remember to have your child visit the restroom periodically throughout your swim time.

Bathroom Policy:
The Hercules Swim Center requires children of the opposite sex (6 years and older) to use their respected locker room. Please respect our community and facility by utilizing the appropriate locker room for the changing of diapers and/or clothing; we encourage cleanliness and privacy.

Pool Facts:

  • Lifeguards spend more than 40 hours getting certified and trained 1 time a month, year-round to ensure that they are ready for any emergency situation.
  • If you have questions or comments about our facility please feel free to talk with our Sr. Lifeguards (dressed in red).
  • The Hercules Swim Center is a year-round facility that offers programs and activities for adults and children.
  • Swim instructors are either certified Water Safety Instructors from the American Red Cross or have trained with USA Registered Swim Coaches.
  • Our main pool consists of 300,000 gallons of water & our play pool consists of 30,000 gallons of water.
  • The Hercules Swim Center was built in 1991, making this our 23nd year of operation.
     
  • Both of our pools are heated year-round, at approximately 78-82 degrees.
Pool Rules:
  • All entries to the pool and deck areas must be paid admissions, including non-swimmers and chaperones.
  • Children 9 years and under, must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older at all times.
  • All children 6 years & under must be supervised and within in reaching distance of a parent or guardian; failure to follow this rule will result in the lifeguard staff asking the parent/guardian and child to leave the facility without a refund.
  • Only US Coast Guard approved life jackets may be worn, with adult supervision; swim suits with sewn-in foam is not allowed.
  • Noodles and small diving toys are permitted during public swim hours. No water guns, full face masks, snorkels, fins, inner tubes, water wings, air mattresses, beach balls or inflatable toys.
  • Outside food is allowed under certain rules and conditions: no alcohol, no glass, and no BBQs.
  • No street clothing may be worn in the pool; proper swim attire only. Swimmers may wear a white t-shirt over their swimming suit, but must have a swimming suit on under the white shirt.
  • No photograph or recording equipment allowed in the pool areas.
  • Swim diapers required for any child who wears diapers; available for purchase in the Aquatics Office.
  • No animals/pets allowed in the pool areas.
  • Only children (5 years and under) of the opposite sex are allowed in the locker room areas.
  • Pool rules are posted on the deck surrounding the pool and are necessary for the safety of all participants. Participants must obey posted rules and oral instructions from the aquatics staff at all times; failure to comply will result in being asked to leave the facility without a refund.
  • The Swim Center is subject to close without warning. Public Swim will close early if the minimum requirement of 25 participants is not met within the first hour of operation. *Refunds will not be given if the pool closes because of lack of attendance.

Lap Swim / Water Walking Therapy (Ages 14 and Up)
This program is designed for swimmers looking for a cardiovascular workout through swimming laps or water walking, and for participants who are looking for a location to complete their therapy routine. Swimmers may be asked to circle swim or move to designated lap lanes as needed; please ask for assistance.

The City of Hercules East Bay Silver Dolphins is a USA swimming team that practices & competes year-round! The team & coaches are dedicated to fostering a positive and challenging environment for athlete growth in the East Bay! Swimmers will have fun while improving their skills, sportsmanship, and self-esteem. Each dolphin is coached by ASCA certified coaches, competes and participates in year-round team events. Trainings: swimmers work on stroke technique, conditioning skills, goal setting, teamwork and discipline in a safe, fun environment that values every swimmer. Life skills: EBSD believes that while swimming is fun and great exercise, it also teaches important life skills such as self-motivation, the importance of hard work and dedication, setting and obtaining personal goals, and time management. Team: each swimmer is an important part of the team. They learn to have fun together and provide encouragement and motivation for their teammates.
Pre-requisite: swimmer must have a level 2 swimming experience before joining the swim team.
FREE 1 week trail for Intermediate and Advanced swimmers.

Hercules Piranhas Swim Team
The Hercules Piranhas are a recreational swim team that swims during the Spring and Summer months. The Team emphasizes on teamwork, dedication, and fun for children 5 to 18 years of age. All swimmers participate in practices, clinics, invitational meets, and team events. Practice times are determined off of your child's swimming ability rather than age, this helps each child individually and to utilize our pool time/space effectively. If you are looking for something for your children to do during Spring and Summer, this is the team for you! Swim with a Championship Team, have fun, and meet new friends and families! Pre-requisite: Children must be able to swim 25 yards unassisted prior to joining swim team.

Lifeguard Training Class
Want to become a lifeguard? Sign up for this course and you can become a lifeguard in less than 35 hours! After you complete this course you will recieve certifications in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Lifeguard Training for the Professional Rescuer.    Pre-requisite: must be at least 15 years or older by the last day of the course; on the first day of the course participants must be able to swim 300 yards nonstop and retrieve a 10lb brick from 7 feet of water and return to the designated point within 1 minute 40 seconds.

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
This course is designed for participants who would like to get certified in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer through the American Red Cross; certifications are good for two years either as a lifeguard or a healthcare provider.

High School Conditioning
This program is designed for high school swimmers looking to get into the water early to condition and prepare for their upcoming high school swim season. Practice with ASCA certified swim coaches and get ready for your swim season.

Aqua Zumba
When you take Aqua Zumba, a bathing suit and towel is required and a bottle of water is recommended. Join us for a Zumba party like a never before and you don't even need to know how to swim. This is definitely not your typical water workout; shake, shimmy and sizzle in the water as we create some heat, Zumba Style. What is all the talk about Aqua Zumba anyways? Aqua Zumba is a safe, effective, and challenging water-based workout that integrates the Zumba formula and philosophy into traditional aqua fitness. Don't be fooled, this is not your normal aqua class. The moves are intense. Latin dance rhythms are incorporated into this class. Exercise movements including hamstring curls, Zumba shuffle, kicking, twisting and clapping. *Water shoes are recommended for your safety; you may purchase these from Walmart, Target, or any sport store*
Aqua Zumba will return in April 2015.

Individual Swimming Lessons
 
Designed for children 3 years & up! Children who exceed the age of 7 and are not comfortable in the water are encouraged to enroll into our individual swimming program to meet their needs. Lessons designed on a one on one instruction either in the main pool or the play pool depending on the child's prior swimming ability; swim instruction and location will be determined by the swim instructor to ensure your child's swimming needs.

Semi-Private Lessons
The Hercules Swim Center Pre-School Semi-private Swimming Lessons are designed for children 4 to 7 years of age, and are held in our play pool. The Hercules Swim Center Youth Semi-private Swimming Lessons are designed for children 8 to 12 years of age, and are held in our main pool. All semi-private lessons are conducted with one instructor to two students. Lesson plans are designed around the students' current swimming ability while focusing on technique, stroke development, expanding each students comfort in the water, and so much more!

Group Lessons

The Hercules Swim Center's Learn to Swim Group Swimming Lessons are based on American Red Cross Standards. There are 6 different levels in the Learn to Swim Group Swimming Lesson program; please see a description of each level below.


LEVEL 1 is located in our play pool and focuses on introducing each student to the water environment. This level helps build the student's confidence to feel comfortable in the water while learning to submerge their face while blowing bubbles, picking up submerged objects, entering and exiting the water safely with assistance, along with numerous water safety skills, and so much more!
Lessons will return in Summer of 2015.

Level 2 Swim LessonLEVEL 2 is located in our play pool and focuses on basic fundamental swimming skills. This level helps build each student's successfulness of swimming by learning how to float on their front and back along with a recovery position, change directions of swimming, introduction to freestyle and backstroke, along with numerous water safety skills, and so much more!
Lessons will return in Summer of 2015.


Level 3LEVEL 3 is located in the shallow end of the main pool and focuses on each participant's stroke development. This level helps each student build on the skills they learned from level 2 through additional guided practice and skill development. Each student will focus on technique development through front and back crawl, treading water, flutter and dolphin kick, and more!
Lessons will return in Summer of 2015.



LEVEL 4
is located in the shallow end of the main pool. This level focuses on stroke improvement by developing each participant's confidence by improving the skills they learned in level 3. Participants look forward to working on and learning how to perform a feet first surface dive, survival swimming, improving all four kick techniques, being introduced to butterfly and breaststroke, and so much more!

LEVEL 5 is located in the deep end of the main pool and focuses on the participant's stroke refinement. This level will teach participants how to perform front and back crawl turns, and help develop endurance with breaststroke, freestyle, butterfly, and backstroke; participants will learn water safety skills, and so much more!

LEVEL 6 is located in the deep end of the main pool. This level focuses on swimming and skill proficiency through personal water safety; each participant will continue to build on their endurance, and prepare participants for the swim team or other aquatic sports!

AquaTot SwimAqua Tot Lessons
This course is designed to create an enjoyable, non-threatening environment which allows parents to actively participate with their children while they learn water skills. This is an entry level program that prepares your child for group or individual swimming lessons as he/she grows into more advanced level classes.
Lessons will return in Summer of 2015.

Adult Lessons
Adult lessons are designed for students ages 13 & up, who would like some additional swimming instruction without the hustle and bustle of small children. This lesson program is ideal for adults of all ages who have never learned to swim or who may have a limited aquatic background. Pre-registration is mandatory for all adult classes and we encourage early registration due to the popularity of the adult lesson program.
