Myrna de Vera was first elected to the City Council in November 2010 and was re-elected in November 2014. She served as Vice Mayor in 2011 and 2013 and served as Mayor in 2014. She is also serving as Mayor in 2017.
Myrna de Vera was elected to her first four year term on the Hercules City Council in November 2010 and was appointed to serve as Vice Mayor in January, 2011. In December 2012, de Vera was selected by the City Council to serve as Vice Mayor. She was then selected to serve as Mayor in December 2013 and will complete her term in December 2014.
Raised in Cebu City, Philippines, she had graduated with a B.S. Architecture degree from the University of the Philippines, Diliman on 1982 and then went on to work in the architectural and civil engineering industry for ten years in various Bay Area firms.
The Hercules City Council appointed Myrna de Vera as a planning commissioner on April 2005, and reappointed her on April 2007 and April 2009. She was voted by her fellow commissioners as Vice-Chairperson on April 2006, moved up to the position of Chairperson on November 2006 until April 2009. She served as Vice-Chair again from 2009 to 2010. Myrna de Vera was also a member of the Design Review Subcommittee.
Mayor Myrna de Vera says she tries to emulate her sister, Lorna Dietz, and her late father, Jose Lardizabal, by being actively involved in the community. She is a member of the Filipino Americans of Contra Costa County, Fil-Ams of Hercules, Hercules Lions Club, Chinese Association of Hercules, Filipina Women’s Network, and NAFAA (National Federation of Filipino American Associations) District 8. Vice Mayor De Vera is a member of the Pastoral Council and the Fundraising Advisory Board of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Rodeo.
Mayor Myrna de Vera was selected as “Woman of the Year” by the Hercules City Council, and given a Special Recognition Award by the Hercules Chamber of Commerce in 2010. She was awarded as one of the 100 Most Influential Filipina Women in the U.S. under the “Policymakers and Visionaries” category by the Filipina Women’s Network.
Myrna owns and manages an insurance agency in San Francisco. Her husband, Manuel, and she have been residing in Hercules with their three sons, Mark, Christian, and Emmanuel since 1991.
