The Law Enforcement Exploring Program is sponsored by local law enforcement agencies to provide career information to students between the ages of 14 and 21. It also provides the structure and resources needed for young adults to make ethical choices and achieve their full potential as individuals.
Law Enforcement Exploring is specifically designed to incorporate experience in several areas including: life skills, career training, learning through service (volunteering), character education, and leadership experience. The students learn first hand the duties and responsibilities of police officers and are therefore better able to make a decision about whether law enforcement is for them. They are also given much needed training and experience to help get them to the next step.
By bringing interested youth and police together on a regular basis,the explorers are able to apply the information and tactics they learn in mock simulations at various competitions held throughout the country. Students compete in several areas including law enforcement tactics, physical stamina, obstacle curses and shooting techniques. The largest explorer competition is held in Chandler, Arizona where over 300 Explorers compete from all over the country.
Although the primary focus on Exploring is teaching youth about law enforcement career fields and encouraging them to prepare for the future, there are many other benefits from the program. Participants develop leadership skills and life skills to help make better choices. The program also aims to build self-worth and self-confidence in young people which will help them succeed regardless of their career choice.
The Hercules Police Department is seeking applicants for the Police Explorer Program.
Police Explorers learn about and are involved in law enforcement operations.
As an Explorer you will participate in the following:
- Traffic Control
- Search and Rescue Activities
- Ride Along
- Crime Prevention
- Community Activities
Applicants must be 14 through 20 years of age, maintain a 2.0 GPA or better, have no criminal record, be able to work well with others and have a willingness to learn.
